LFW – MOLLY GODDARD SS21
Bold brights; stripes and checks; ruffles on ruffles on ruffles. Sounds like a classic Molly Goddard collection, does it not? But Goddard wasn’t in the mood for her standard smile-inducing, frothy frocks when she first came out of lockdown. Per her show notes, the designer was feeling down, as we all were, and set out to design a more subdued collection, something “pared down” in all “neutral tones.”
Molly Goddard was born and raised in London and studied at Central Saint Martins.
Exploiting the tension between maximalism and restraint, Goddard’s exploration of transparencies, fabric manipulation, construction and volume is key to her work, as are techniques such as hand-smocking and shirring. Since its inception in 2014, the label has developed considerably – signature tulle has been joined by taffeta, organdy and silk – while the range of products has expanded to include menswear and accessories.
