SuperValu Spanish & Portuguese Wine Sale

Feel free to share:

SuperValu will be running their promotion of wines from the Iberian Peninsula which will finish on Wednesday 2nd March, 2022. The wine selection is pretty special, the stand out wine is the La Única IV RRP €44.99 now €25.00 This is the 4thedition of this concept wine, made from a blend of Tempranillo clones, all grown in Northern Spanish wine regions. The fourth edition release was a mere 15,000 bottles and the wine is a blend of 60% Tinta Fina , 10% Tinto del Toro from DO Ribera del Duero and 30% of Tempranillo grown in DOCa Rioja. This wine is only on offer for a limited time and subject to availability while stocks last.  This is not an appellation wine. It also features a unique hand painted wine label by contemporary artist Mariano Rinaldi Goni an artist from Argentina who is now based in Berlin.  This is unique and very different and if you want a really special present for the wine lover in your life, then get over to your local SuperValu store pronto and snap this one up.

Some of the popular SuperValu regulars are also on offer, including a favorite of mine the 2021 Abellio Albariño (was €14.99 now €10.00) from the Saline’s region of Rías Baixas, from Galicia in northern Spain.  This is a real star wine with lots floral aromas and peach fruit flavours. I also love their 2019 Fado Friendship Reserva (was €13.99 now €10.00) from Lisboa the wine region north of Lisbon.  This is made from a blend of Tinta Roriz (aka Tempranillo), Alicante Bouchet and Syrah and is just velvety and gorgeous with lots of dark black fruit flavours with hints of mocha and spice.

They also have a selection of “guest” wines on offer and there is some astounding value to be found as well as a few world class wines.  Sherry lovers, do NOT miss the Apóstoles Palo Cortado €15.00 (on offer), or the 2014 Condado de Oriza Gran Reserva €13.39 from DO Ribera del Duero, this wine is made from 50-year-old vines grown in high altitude vineyards (700 metres above sea level).  The yield is very low 200 kilos per HA,  James Suckling gave these 92 points.  Aged for 24 months in oak, 4 years in bottle a classic example of the regional style.

Other guest wines include 2021 Marques de Cáceres Rueda Verdejo €10.00, 2014 Marques de Cáceres Rioja Gran Reserva €15.00, 2021 Five Lagoons Sauvignon Blanc €10.00 and 2021 Viñas del Vero Gewürztraminer €10.00.
